Rally This....

Morgan Farrar

One of THE BEST THINGS IN MY ENTIRE HUSKY LIFE are the Friday night rally's around campus before a home game the next Saturday. If you have not taken the time to experience such greatness, I suggest you block out the rest of your Friday nights for the 2014 season.

These rallies are composed of four parts:
  1. UW Cheer & Spirit
  2. Husky Marching Band
  3. Pure joy
  4. And of course STUDENTS
Here, take a look for yourself:

What a perfect time to reach out to students you say? Well, we are two gallops in front you. Not only do we take the opportunity to help pump up our fellow Dawg Pack members, but we do things like pass out flyers to increase awareness about promotions that are taking place on campus, and sporting events that are (little known to students, gasp! we'll change that) are FREE with Husky Cards.

For example:

When television network, FOX Sports 1 came to the University of Washington for the UW vs. Arizona game on Saturday, Sept. 28. The Husky Street Team partnered with FOX's team to pass out flyers during the Friday, Sept. 27 night rally that help spread the word of the events that were to take place the next day. Yeah, we passed out about 2,500 flyers. #likeaboss

FIGs. Like Fig Newtons? What?

Erin Allett

As the Husky Street Team and UW Marketing & Game Day Experience strives to enhance the relationships between Athletics and UW campus and the student body, we continue to find ways to positively partner and team-up with our new friends at First Year Programs.

FIGs (or Freshman Interest Group) is a program that chunks incoming freshmen into mini cohorts that complete all of their classes together during a quarter of freshman year. FIGs are led by upperclassmen that may or may not be well-versed in all things Athletics. FGIs help to ease the transition to college...and they also just happen to provide us with a target group of doe-eyed freshman for our department to share the good word about Husky Athletic events (Olympic sports free with Husky card!) and that are teams are amazing!

IMA Activity Fair and Husky Kickoff

Morgan Farrar

Morgan here with the Husky Street Team! We are just about to start off a wonderful year here at the University of Washington, but don't you worry, HST is already starting to get on their game!

Today we spent hours interacting with new UW students  and connecting with some sports lovers at the IMA. The first event we made an appearance at was Husky Kickoff in our brand new stadium where Sarah, Sam, Natalie and I stood out in the pouring rain...what else is new...for an hour making a face-to-face connection with freshman while distributing 800 flyers for the fall sports and fun events coming up the first week of school! This was our first "This Week In Husky Athletics" flyer distribution! ...I have a feeling there will be a lot of these.

Next we made our way over to the IMA where we were one of many Registered Student Organizations promoting their passions and desires. Our's you might ask...? HUSKY ATHLETICS OF COURSE!!

Sarah, Natalie, Morgan ready to welcome some students!
We ran a table with fall sports posters to give away to students and way too much free candy. It was a great chance to show our faces and start spreading awareness about Husky Athletic events  and HST one step at a time. I believe we hit the tip of the iceberg, but people were excited about the sports to come. We do have a lot more work to do!

This will not be the last of us, don't you worry:).

ReTOOK Montlake

Natalie Gilbert

The first official mission of the Husky Street Team was set for Aug. 31, 2013. We were each to distribute commemorative coins to the first 2,000 loyal Husky Fans before the Huskies whooped on Boise with a 38-6 win in the first game back at Husky Stadium. With the help from Game Day Interns, we were able to cover all entrances and very successfully passed out these Retake Montlake coins.

As our first call to duty, I was honored to help hand these out to my fellow Husky Fans, because I would have been on the other side of those gates standing along side them in a heartbeat.

There were definite fears of getting trampled, or not being able to hold down the fort, but this was a silly fear because there was so much happiness and excitement encompassing the stadium. In fact we even made new friends!

Can we go relive that day please?

From a proud Husky,
Natalie
